Scientists have verified that Earth’s magnetic poles have flipped periodically in the past. One such occurrence was 42,000 years ago and there were drastic climate and environmental changes in the planet.  Our magnetic field helps shield us from damaging solar radiation.  Protection weakens when flipping occurred and ice-sheets started across north America and rain belts dramatically shifted and megafauna died off in some places – all for a period of about 800 years.  Could we be about to experience this – further exacerbated by the pollution we are creating on our planet?    Source  –  The Week
