Palm Sunday begins with the Liturgy of the Palms: where branches are blessed and distributed. The service commemorates Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, where crowds greeted him with palm branches.
Our special Holy Week offering includes this ancient service of shadows, or darkness, on the afternoon of Palm Sunday. The service of “darkness” or “shadows” involves the gradual extinguishing of candles until there is no more light in the church.
