The words of St. Francis’ iconic prayer will frame an important conversation on the spiritual practice of civil discourse in our Fall Adult Forum. Developed by the Episcopal Office of Government Relations, “Make Me an Instrument of Peace” is designed to equip people with the tools to engage in the art of Civil Discourse—a skill that is desperately needed in our present life.
Over 5 weeks, we’ll hear from presenters who are well versed in civil discourse, and learn the fundamentals of this skill in the hopes of helping us faithfully engage in the difficult conversations that surround us. We’ll also celebrate the fact that churches are what are known as 3rd spaces—spaces that are separate from our work and home lives which allow us to engage with others who we might not otherwise encounter.
What might our call be as a place of divine encounter? And how might the tool of civil discourse help us honor that call? This class will be facilitated by the parish clergy and meets on Sundays starting September 22 during the 9:15 a.m. formation hour. Meet in Lloyd Hall.
