Annual Parish Meeting

January 26 @ 11:45 am - 12:30 pm

The Christ & St. Luke’s Annual Parish Meeting will take place on Sunday, January 26, immediately following the 10:15 a.m. service. All are encouraged to attend. We have much to celebrate from the year that is past and much to look forward to in the year to come. This meeting will include important information from parish leadership and the presentation of financial reports including our 2024 year-end financial position and the 2025 budget.

We will also elect the new Vestry class. Pursuant to the parish bylaws, a nominating committee has determined four members who will be presented for election at the Annual Meeting. Their names, pictures and biographies are below. Only those who are “enrolled, adult, confirmed communicants in good standing” may vote in the parish election. If you have a question about your status on our parish rolls, please be in touch with the Church Office. Unless special permission has been granted, you must be present in person to vote.

Other nominees may be presented for election to the Vestry by two Elector Members by submission of the nominee’s name to the Register at least ten (10) days prior to the Annual Meeting. Read more about our Vestry Candidates below.

Virginia dardenVirginia L. Darden
I was born and raised in Norfolk and Princess Anne County (now Virginia Beach). I attended the College of William & Mary where I met my husband, Taylor Edwin Darden, Jr. from Smithfield. We lived in Newport News for 60 years, raised 3 children, and have 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. I received my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Degree in 1981 and worked for non-profit organizations. I retired from the travel agent profession. Traveled all over the world and loved it! I was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Newport News for 60 years, and my activities were choir, teaching Sunday school, and serving on the vestry, as a Eucharistic Minister, and lay reader. My civic activities have included the Jr. Woman’s Club of Hilton Village, Jr. League of Hampton Roads, and James River Garden Club. I moved to Harbor’s Edge, December 2020. After listening to Fr. Noah’s sermon on Ascension Sunday, I decided to transfer my letter and became a member of Christ & St. Luke’s on June 17, 2024. I’ve supported the Kenya Silent Auction and Christmas Tree projects, Christmas gifts for Foster Care Children, and I am serving on CSL Bus Transportation Committee for Harbor’s Edge Residents.

My wife, Teresa, and I are lifelong Hampton Roads residents who have been attending Christ & St. Luke’s for four years with our two grandchildren, who are active in the church’s music and children’s programs. I serve as a greeter/usher and Teresa is a children’s ministry volunteer. After graduating from Old Dominion University with a B.A. in English, I embarked on a 30-year career in the nonprofit sector and have held a variety of development, community engagement, public policy, advocacy, public health, and communications positions. I am particularly passionate about community volunteerism and increasing access to healthcare. I currently serve as Vice President of Communications and Marketing with the American Cancer Society and sit on the organization’s Southeast U.S. Region Leadership Team. I have served on several ministry and community nonprofit boards and spent many years coaching and refereeing youth basketball and soccer.

I have been happily sitting in the back pews of Christ & St. Luke’s since rejoining the parish in 2016. My mother, Jo Jones, loved and attended this parish for over 50 years. I was confirmed here in 1968. I have attended a host of Episcopal churches since then: Trinity (Boston), St. Luke’s (Atlanta), St. Paul’s (Norfolk), and Emmanuel and Galilee (Virginia Beach). I have served on vestries including terms as Junior and Senior Warden and on an endowment board. At CSL, I work with the Stephen’s Ministry and the ushers. I have been married to Kristi Jones for over 40 years, and we have three grown children and three grandchildren. While largely retired now, I was the President of a logistics business, an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney (prosecutor), the Athletic Director at a Boy’s and Girls Club and one of the founders of a government contracting firm. I enjoyed earlier life in academia and finished with a JD and an MBA.
