We are pleased  to report that we have now overcome a series of obstacles that have delayed construction and are now in the home stretch of renovating our church buildings and grounds.

The obstacles included a 7 month long approval process, redesign work to respond to changing codes and unforeseen deterioration of the existing building, several weeks of heavy rains just when foundation work was starting, and Covid related absences.  We are still in the midst of wintry weather which has cost another three weeks.

In spite of all that, the end is now in sight, with completion slated for this summer

Our new geo-thermal heating and cooling system is now online in the sanctuary and the Parlor.  This environmentally friendly and sustainable system will efficiently service the church for many years to come.  We have already noticed the effectiveness of the heat over Christmas.

We will have a new sprinkler system, expanded and modern restrooms, an elevator, and the buildings will have complete handicapped access. The buildings have received extensive waterproofing, which is incredibly important given the flooding that we often experience in Norfolk.

Our contractor E.T. Gresham has been incredibly patient.

This has been a very large and complex project, but we hope that you are as excited as we are about the completion of this renovation.  Can you believe that this project began eight years ago with simple cosmetic improvements to the building? We have come so very far!  The Steering Committee wishes to thank everyone for their patience and support during this process.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
