We use stories to communicate deep and important truths that we want to be known, passed on, and held dear by others. The story of Christmas is perhaps the greatest example of that. The Son of God, born in a humble manger; the gift of eternal light coming into a world of darkness; the prayer for peace and goodwill among humankind. These have been taken and repackaged in many forms over the last 2,000 years. This Advent, during our adult formation time, we’re going to have fun reflecting theologically on some examples of how the story of Christmas has been told in a secular, popular context. Across four weeks we will focus on a series of classic Christmas books and movies to glean what they have to teach us about the meaning of the greatest story ever told.
Sunday, Nov. 26, It’s a Wonderful Life (Fr. Noah)
Sunday, Dec. 3, A Christmas Carol (Mtr. Katie Beth)
Sunday, Dec. 10, How the Grinch Stole Christmas/Charlie Brown Christmas (Fr. Noah)
Sunday, Dec. 17, Elf/Rudolph (Fr. Jared)
Given that Christmas Eve falls on the Fourth Sunday of Advent this year, our Advent Formation series wil begin the week before Advent officially starts.
