SUMMARY:Take a Dip Into Baptism
DESCRIPTION:Take a Dip Into Baptism is our baptismal prep course designed to prepare baptismal candidates and their families for the sacred rite of Baptism. This intergenerational and hands-on course is a great way to introduce some of the key beliefs of the Christian faith and see how those beliefs play out in our context. While designed for baptismal candidates\, it is open to anyone who wishes to learn more about this important sacrament. This 3-week class meets on Thursdays starting Oct. 9 from 5:30-6:30 PM. DESCRIPTION:We live on a planet that is dying and in a city that is drowning. And it’s our fault. Human created climate change is causing a warming of our planet that is having disastrous effects. As people of faith\, we believe that the world is a work of creation by the one Creator\, but instead of stewarding it responsibly\, we are exploiting it. \nThis fall we are going to take a good\, hard look at the realities of our relationship with Creation seeking out ways to take action to heal the pain and respond to the problems we have caused. We know from our Holy Listening conversations that this is a topic of importance to this parish\, it is also a core component of our Bishop’s initiatives and central to the teaching of The Episcopal Church. \nIn our Sunday morning adult formation sessions\, you will hear from your clergy reflecting theologically on this issue and from special guests who are leaders in the field of environmentalism in this area. DESCRIPTION:Christ & St. Luke’s is now a steward of the Heritage Edition of The Saint John’s Bible. This Advent\, we will take advantage of this wonderful gift and use it to help reflect on some of the passages central to our understanding of Advent. This forum series will combine two sacred traditions of scriptural interpretation — Visio Divina and Lectio Divina. \nUsing the words of scripture\, and the beautiful illuminations in The St. John’s Bible\, we’ll spend some time reflecting together on this season of waiting and anticipation. This forum series will be participatory\, with attendees’ input being central to the Visio Divina and Lectio Divina processes. We’ll be aided by our wonderful Christ & St. Luke’s docents of The Saint John’s Bible\, who will help unlock some of the rich meaning woven into each illumination. \nThis class will meet during the 9:15 a.m. Adult Formation hour on November 30\, December 14\, and December 21.
