SUMMARY:Pub Theology Club
DESCRIPTION:We are a welcoming and diverse group of people\, between the ages of 20 and 40. We hang out\, meet up for brunch\, throw parties\, and support each other no matter what. We typically meet every other Tuesday evening for Pub Theology Club at a local pub. \nPub Theology Club is a community of respect where young adults can explore questions about humanity and the divine without fear and without judgment. \nSometimes we listen to a podcast or read a book and discuss it. Sometimes we ask questions about life and faith. Sometimes we just share what’s on our minds and love and support one another on our unique journeys. \nWant to join us? Contact Will Lee for details or just show up at one of our events and introduce yourself! \nWe accept all and hold strongly to only one idea: that everyone walks their own path in their faith\, and ours is not to dictate that path but to help each other along our own.

SUMMARY:Adult Formation: Building A Rule of Life
DESCRIPTION:Whether we realize it or not\, unspoken rules already govern our daily lives. But do they center Christ? This Eastertide we invite you to bring intentionality to your days by joining our clergy for a six-week Adult Forum exploring the ancient Christian practice of a “Rule of Life.” Inspired by St. Benedict’s promise in 530 AD when he wrote rules for his monks\, hoping to establish “nothing harsh\, nothing burdensome\,” we will study monastic and lay traditions to help you craft a personal framework for encountering God. Discover how to follow Jesus with renewed intentionality. Come\, see!

SUMMARY:Lenten Adult Formation: Make No Peace With Oppression
DESCRIPTION:On the five Sundays of Lent (February 22\, March 1\, March 8\, March 15\, March 22 from 9:15 a.m. — 10:00 a.m. \nThroughout the Bible\, “oppression” is one of the main evils against which people of faith must contend. What does it do to people? How do we help?\nJoin us this Lent as we use our Sunday Adult Formation time to explore this topic. We will hear from clergy and special guests speaking about their own understanding and\nexperience of oppression and broaden our engagement with this essential aspect of our faith.

SUMMARY:Rector's Book Club
DESCRIPTION:This month we’ll be reading “Humbler Faith\, Bigger God” by Sam Wells. Wells\, the Vicar of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London\, takes the major criticisms of the Christian faith and offers a different\, humbler story for us to live by. \n—March (Lenten Series): “Jesus and the Disinherited” by Howard Thurman. In place of our usual group\, we will join our friends at Second Calvary Baptist Church for a collaborative Lenten study of this foundational text of the civil rights

They must resist oppressing others and they must work to liberate\nthose who are oppressed. But what exactly is oppression? Who gets to define it? What does it really feel like to be oppressed? What does it do to people? How do we help?\nJoin us this Lent as we use our Sunday Adult Formation time to explore this topic. We will hear from clergy and special guests speaking about their own understanding and\nexperience of oppression and broaden our engagement with this essential aspect of our faith.

SUMMARY:Queer Theology
DESCRIPTION:As a slight shift for the February meeting\, in honor of Black History month\, the Queer Theology Discussion Group is going to let James Baldwin’s short story\, “Sonny’s Blues” guide them in an exploration of faith\, both through the Queer lens but also through the queering lens of black liberation theology. Please read the story a couple of times through\, if you’re planning to attend. There are also many good readings of the story on YouTube\, including this one. \nWe’re a parishioner-led group devoted to exploring queer theology more deeply\, and how members of the LGBTQIA+ community are not just accepted in the Episcopal Church but embraced in God’s love. We ask ourselves: How does the queer perspective enrich queer theology and our community? All LGBTQIA+ people and allies are welcome. For more information contact Anders “AJ” Nolan. \nJoin us in the Parlor at Christ & St. Luke’s at noon following the 10:15 service on the second Sunday of each month. \nFor more information\, please contact Anders “AJ” Nolan.

SUMMARY:Rector’s Book Club
DESCRIPTION:This month we’ll be reading Being Disciples by Rowan Williams. The former Archbishop of Canterbury offers a short but theologically hefty look at what it means to live as a follower of Christ in the modern world. You can also get ahead on our other picks for the quarter\, if you’re so inclined! \n\nFebruary 27 at 4 p.m.: “Humbler Faith\, Bigger God” by Sam Wells. Wells\, the Vicar of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London\, takes the major criticisms of the Christian faith and offers a different\, humbler story for us to live by.\nMarch (Lenten Series): “Jesus and the Disinherited” by Howard Thurman. In place of our usual group\, we will join our friends at Second Calvary Baptist Church for a collaborative Lenten study of this foundational text of the civil rights

SUMMARY:Adult Formation with Rabbi Michael Panitz
