WOW will gather again Tuesday, August 8, 3-5 p.m. at Joan Atkinson’s home. We’ll finish our discussion of Mitch Albom’s Stranger in the Lifeboat.

WOW will continue to pray about how to support Together for Kenya. Below is a suggestion for our involvement:

Together for Kenya recommends that WOW support Holy Family Center (HFC) HIV/AIDS Clinic Proposal:

Outreach to Schools…”Ignite..Spark..Achieve”

In 2022, HFC’s patient load increased to 7,000 patients (up from 5600). Of those patients 60% were between the ages of 15 to 29 with an increase in teen pregnancies, STD’s , depression and suicides.

Culturally, sex education is something that is not discussed at home, school, or church. Why this increase? Some blame COVID; some say it’s the result of a severe drought and economic slowdown. Complicated issues!

When staff visited 10 schools in 2022, and asked the youth to write down their personal questions, the results were shocking. They began to put a plan together to reach those students with answers.

The goal for this mentorship initiative is to provide Information, education and communication to both students and teachers. Topics will include: building self esteem, medical and mental health, assertiveness (say-no), and social skills/relationship building.

The budget for this program is $5,500 and will reach 12,500 students at 25 schools.
